The Sarawak ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), will hold its first convention since its formation seven years ago, GPS secretary-general Alexander Nanta Linggi announced. The convention is scheduled for April 19.
In a statement, Nanta said the idea for the convention was proposed by GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg. While the total number of delegates has yet to be finalised, the event will focus on Sarawak’s achievements and future direction under its development strategy unveiled in 2024. This strategy aims to position Sarawak as a high-income, developed state by 2030, highlighting key milestones and plans for the state’s growth.
When asked if the convention is linked to preparations for the upcoming Sarawak state assembly election, Nanta clarified that while GPS is ready for any eventuality, the convention is “long overdue”.
GPS was formed in 2018 and officially launched in January 2019, marking a new era in Sarawak politics as the coalition seeks to consolidate its governance and developmental agenda.
