Three-Year-Old Girl Burned After Hot Water Mistakenly Filled Into Bottle In Singapore

Date:

A three-year-old girl suffered burns to her tongue after accidentally drinking boiling hot water that had mistakenly been poured into her insulated water bottle.

According to her father, the incident occurred on Feb 1 while the family was dining at a fast-food outlet at Ridout Tea Garden in Singapore.

He said he had asked restaurant staff to fill his daughter’s bottle with cold water, but a misunderstanding led to hot water being poured into the insulated bottle instead.

The child immediately reacted in distress and clutched her mouth after taking a sip, prompting the family to realise that the bottle contained hot water.

In a Facebook post on Feb 4, the father said he shared the incident as a reminder to other parents to remain vigilant at all times. He also acknowledged his own mistake in failing to check the bottle before giving it to his daughter.

A video of the incident showed the child crying in pain, while officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force were seen providing assistance at the scene.

The girl was later taken to hospital for further treatment.

Due to the injury, she experienced temporary difficulty eating and drinking, but her condition has since been reported as stable.
