Man Dies After Jumping Into Olive Garden Deep Fryer, Staff and Customer Injured in Rescue Attempt

Date:

A man in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, has died after plunging headfirst into a deep fryer at an Olive Garden restaurant, leaving staff and a customer injured during rescue attempts.

According to reports, the man stripped naked in the kitchen before diving into the vat of hot oil. Emergency responders rushed him to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Several employees sustained burns while trying to save him, including at least one female staff member, while a patron also intervened to help.

Local authorities have classified the incident as a suicide attempt, withholding further details due to the sensitive nature of the case. Audio from emergency calls captured chaotic scenes, with dispatchers describing “a male victim went headfirst into the fryers” and noting screams from those present.

The restaurant temporarily closed following the incident on January 30 but has since reopened.
