Three people, including a three-year-old girl, were killed in a head-on collision involving a car and a pickup truck along Jalan Tanjung Tualang here on Sunday night, in yet another fatal road tragedy in Perak.
The victims were identified as Perodua Myvi driver S.R. Sarala Devi, 34, and her front-seat passenger G. Sarasbathy Gopal, 65, who both died at the scene. A third victim, three-year-old S. Shaastikka, was rushed to Batu Gajah Hospital by members of the public but succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Sabarodzie Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at 9.45pm following reports of a serious collision involving a Perodua Myvi and a Toyota Hilux.
Upon arrival, firefighters found two female victims trapped inside the Myvi, seated in the driver’s and front passenger’s positions. Rescue personnel immediately carried out an assessment and implemented the SAVER concept, using hydraulic rescue equipment to extricate both victims from the wreckage.
“Both women were confirmed dead at the scene and their bodies were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation,” he said, adding that the rescue operation ended at 11.30pm.
In the same incident, the 27-year-old driver of the pickup truck sustained injuries to his limbs and knees and was transported to Batu Gajah Hospital for treatment.
Road safety remains a growing concern, particularly on stretches frequently used by local residents and heavy vehicles, where visibility and reaction time can be critical factors. Authorities have repeatedly reminded motorists to remain vigilant, especially at night, as high-impact collisions continue to claim lives across the state.
