Kuala Lumpur Man Arrested Over Facebook Post Insulting Indian Community

Date:

A man has been arrested for allegedly posting content on Facebook insulting the Indian community, Kuala Lumpur police confirmed.

City police chief Fadil Marsus identified the suspect as Cikgu Chandra, who was taken into custody around 3pm on Feb 11. Authorities also seized his mobile phone for further investigation.

“During questioning, the suspect admitted he made the post out of dissatisfaction and to gain attention from his social media followers,” Fadil said in a statement.

The arrest followed a report lodged on Feb 10, claiming the post described the Indian community as uncivilised and referenced illegal temples. The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Fadil reminded the public to refrain from posting content related to race, religion, or royalty that could disturb public order. “Strict action will be taken against anyone exploiting such sensitive issues for popularity or support,” he added.
