BAM Performance Committee Chief Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei has expressed his hope to meet with women’s doubles shuttler Go Pei Kee for a candid discussion after reports emerged that the 24-year-old intends to leave the national team.
Chong Wei said he has allowed Pei Kee some time to reflect following the Chinese New Year festivities before arranging the meeting. The player, who reportedly decided to part ways with partner Teoh Mei Xing, has since stopped training at the Academy Badminton Malaysia and is believed to have returned to her family in Johor Bahru.
“I am not fully aware of the details. I’ve only seen reports on social media about her decision to split with her partner. I want to have a heart-to-heart talk with her when she returns after Chinese New Year,” Chong Wei said.
He added that Pei Kee has no history of disciplinary issues and that he hopes the conversation will bring positive outcomes. “I want to hear her thoughts, and we hope for good news — perhaps that she can return. If necessary, we can explore a different partner,” he said.
Pei Kee’s announcement came shortly after she confirmed the split with Mei Xing. During their partnership of less than two years, the duo reached a career-high world ranking of No. 18 and clinched the 2024 Malaysia Super 100 title.
