A shocking discovery was made this morning at Taman Bandaraya Bukit Serindit when a cleaning worker, 57-year-old Baharudin Bacik, found the body of a newborn baby girl in a public restroom. The infant, who was full-term and still had her umbilical cord, was wrapped in a telekung cloth.
Baharudin said he initially thought the cloth contained discarded clothing, a common occurrence, but a colleague noticed it resembled a baby’s head. Upon opening the bundle, they confirmed it was indeed a newborn.
“There were no visible bloodstains nearby, and the baby appeared clean apart from the umbilical cord,” he told reporters at the scene. The infant had been placed in a baby care area within the women’s restroom, typically used for changing or breastfeeding.
Datuk Mohd. Noor Helmy Abdul Halem, the Duyong state assemblyman, visited the site and expressed his sadness and disappointment over the distressing incident. Authorities are investigating the case.
