A devastating shooting in Ocala, Florida, has left a family shattered after a 38-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his estranged 34-year-old wife and their 4-year-old daughter before taking his own life. Authorities believe the incident may have been triggered by the man discovering that the young girl was not his biological child.
According to local reports from WCJB, the Ocala Police Department said the double homicide occurred on the evening of February 10 at the Marion Springs Condominiums. The victims, Nancy Bacon and her daughter Eden, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neighbours reported hearing gunshots around 9:16 pm and saw the suspect, Ralph Bacon, driving away from the apartment.
Police issued a vehicle alert, and the car was later located about seven miles north of the Florida border in Kingsland, Georgia. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Bacon was found dead inside. Investigators believe the motive for the shooting may have been linked to Bacon learning that Eden was not his biological daughter.
Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken noted that the child’s biological father may have been a factor in the tragic events. Nancy’s mother stated that Eden’s father is from Sri Lanka and of Muslim heritage, describing Bacon as “irresponsible” and exhibiting racial bias. She expressed ongoing concern that he might harm her daughter and granddaughter.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case to clarify the circumstances and motive behind the shootings. The Ocala Police Department released a statement expressing profound condolences: “Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected. We mourn the loss of Nancy and her young daughter and extend our deepest sympathy to all who knew them.”
