A 22-year-old Bangladeshi man is set to be charged in court on 14 February 2026 for his alleged involvement in a case of attempted cheating by faking his own kidnapping.
The incident began on 12 February 2026 at around 11:42am, when police received a report that the man had failed to show up for work. During follow-up investigations, authorities were informed the following day that the man had allegedly been kidnapped.
The man’s uncle reportedly received text messages demanding a ransom of S$3,000 for his nephew’s release, accompanied by photos showing the man tied up.
Officers from Clementi Police Division launched extensive searches to locate him. Within three hours of receiving the alleged kidnapping report, police found the man safe in the Marina Bay area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the man had staged the kidnapping himself for personal reasons. No ransom was paid, and his mobile devices were seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have confirmed that the case will proceed to court on 14 February 2026, with charges related to attempted cheating.
