Date:

A 35-year-old British tourist was arrested after he was caught on camera damaging multiple self-check-in kiosks at Hong Kong International Airport on Feb 16.

A video shared on Facebook showed the man in the departure hall pushing over several kiosks before picking up a metal pole and smashing the machines while they were on the ground.

Incident unfolded at Terminal 1

According to Hong Kong Free Press, the incident took place at about 6am at Terminal 1 of the airport.

Approximately 10 self-check-in kiosks were damaged, along with nearby railings and counters.

An airport spokesperson said staff and security personnel rushed to the scene and warned the man to stop causing further destruction.

Arrest for criminal damage and suspected possession of poison

The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

He was also detained under suspicion of possessing a “Part 1” poison after officers allegedly found four Viagra pills in his backpack, the media outlet reported.

Under Hong Kong law, possessing Viagra without a valid prescription is illegal. Offenders found guilty may face up to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of HK$100,000 — approximately RM60,000.
