Muslims across Malaysia will commence fasting on Thursday, 19 February, marking the beginning of Ramadan this year.
The announcement was made by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, in a live broadcast aired on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) earlier today.
Prior to the declaration, the sighting of the new moon was conducted at 29 strategic locations nationwide. Among the key sites were Baitul Hilal at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Pontian, Johor; Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi in Tanjung Bidara, Melaka; and Baitul Hilal Telok Kemang in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.
The nationwide cerapan exercise also involved observation points across Selangor, Perak, Pulau Pinang, Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang, Sarawak and Sabah, including Menara Kuala Lumpur and the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
The coordinated effort reflects Malaysia’s structured approach in determining the start of Ramadan, ensuring uniformity in observance among Muslims throughout the country.
