Man Loses Leg In Fireworks Explosion At Bukit Siput Home

Date:

A man in his 30s lost his left leg following a fireworks explosion at Taman Damai Jaya in Bukit Siput early yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at about 12.30am, when the victim was believed to be handling fireworks in front of his home in conjunction with Chinese New Year celebrations.

He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the red zone at Segamat Hospital, where the attending medical officer confirmed that his left leg had been severed below the knee. Authorities later reported that his condition was stable.

Segamat district police chief Supt Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail said preliminary investigations indicated that the victim had been using a type of firework known as ‘shoot cake 4(D) 16 Shot (Premium)’ at the time of the explosion.

The case is being investigated under Sections 6 and 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.

Mohd Jumazanzahir reminded the public to use only approved fireworks and to light them in open spaces. He also urged celebrants to adhere strictly to safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents.
