Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad has assured that stateless children will not be turned away from government hospitals, particularly in emergencies or life-threatening situations.
In a parliamentary reply, he emphasised that the ministry aims to ensure healthcare access for all, with stateless children treated on humanitarian grounds. “The principle here is saving lives and providing equal care for those in need,” he said, responding to Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) who asked about healthcare access for stateless children.
Dzulkefly highlighted the ministry’s “no wrong door” policy, which ensures patients requiring urgent care—especially in hospital emergency and trauma departments—are attended to immediately, regardless of citizenship.
He noted, however, that citizens and non-citizens are subject to different charges. Under the Medical Fees Order 2014, non-citizens are billed at the same rate as foreigners.
