Selangor Police Bust Prostitution Den, 23 Detained Including Indonesian Woman

Date:

An Indonesian Muslim woman allegedly defied the holy month of Ramadan by working as a prostitute during the day.

The 29-year-old, known only as Mimi, admitted to recently using methamphetamine when apprehended at a row of dilapidated shop houses along Jalan Kem, here, which were reportedly being used as a brothel.

The operation was conducted by the Gang, Gambling and Vice Division (D7) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters at 1:15pm today.

A total of 23 individuals were arrested, including 18 suspected sex workers, one caretaker, and four clients.

Mimi told authorities she was from Batam, Indonesia, and had been in the area for just two months. She rented a room for RM800 per month, which she also used as her workspace for prostitution, charging as little as RM70 per session.

“My clients include both locals and foreigners, and I only see about five clients a day. The drugs I use cost RM50 per hit,” she said.

Journalists on-site observed that the row of modified shop houses was filthy and foul-smelling, with some rooms equipped with secret escape doors to evade police raids.

Authorities said a formal police statement regarding the operation will be released. Reports indicate the brothel had been raided before but had resumed operations.
