PDRM Ordered to Prioritise Investigation Into Alleged Plot to Topple Government

Date:

Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) has been instructed to give full priority to investigations into any complaints alleging a conspiracy to overthrow the government or sabotage national stability.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the directive was agreed upon during last Friday’s Cabinet meeting, requiring police to commence investigations immediately upon receiving reports from any party.

He confirmed that investigations have already begun following complaints lodged, in line with a recent statement by Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail.

“The investigation is still at an early stage. Every report received will form the basis for PDRM to determine the direction of a more detailed probe, including identifying the relevant legal provisions under which the case will be investigated,” he said.

Saifuddin was speaking at a press conference after attending a breaking-of-fast event held in conjunction with a values inculcation programme at the National Narcotics Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN) in Bachok. Also present was National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh.

Investigation Triggered by Police Report

According to Saifuddin, the investigation stems from a police report and remains preliminary.

“In this case, it began with a complaint. The police must initiate investigations, but it is too early to draw conclusions. The report provides the foundation for determining the direction of the investigation, including which sections of the law may apply and what the motive could be.

“All complaints must be prioritised for investigation,” he added.

Last Friday, media reports alleged that a prominent local family was involved in orchestrating efforts to topple the government through international media platforms and foreign lobbyists.

The allegation was contained in a police report lodged at the Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Brickfields, with the complainant claiming the movement involved close relatives of a former minister who once held significant influence in the country’s political and economic landscape.

Claims of International Pressure Campaign

Based on details circulating from the report, the complainant alleged that the plan was spearheaded by the wife of a former minister, who purportedly sought to use several international media platforms to exert global pressure on the Malaysian government.

The alleged campaign was said to target the Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (MACC) and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, including matters linked to ongoing investigations involving certain individuals.

At least five international media agencies were reportedly mentioned in the plan. The report also alleged proposals to engage lobbyists in the United Kingdom and the United States as part of a strategy to influence policy direction and international perception.

Earlier, Mohd Khalid confirmed that the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit under the Prosecution/Legal Division (D5) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department is conducting investigations under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which concerns activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy, whether directly or indirectly.

He urged the public to refrain from speculation while investigations are ongoing, stressing the importance of upholding the principles of criminal justice.

The complainant also stated that the decision to lodge the report was driven by concerns that the alleged discussions could undermine national sovereignty, particularly if they involved collaboration with external parties to destabilise the existing leadership.

He further clarified that he chose not to pursue any involvement with the family after concluding that the proposed approach was inappropriate.
