Act 852 Enforcement Tightens: Health Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Smoking at Kuching Airport

Date:

An enforcement operation under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) was conducted on 31 July 2025 at Kuching International Airport, targeting individuals found smoking in no-smoking areas. The operation involved 12 Authorized Officers from the International Entry Point Unit of the Kuching Area Health Office (PKB Kuching) in collaboration with the Lundu District Health Office.

PKB Kuching will continue to carry out enforcement actions across Kuching city, focusing on 28 types of designated no-smoking zones, as defined under Act 852, which also includes the prohibition of vaping.

Enforcement is the final step in ensuring public compliance with current health laws. These actions are crucial to curb behaviors that pose risks of disease and negatively impact community health.

The public is reminded to adopt a healthy lifestyle and work together to maintain a clean and safe environment for all.
