Father Spends Two Hours Searching for Son’s Severed Leg After Motorcycle Crash

Date:

In a tragic accident on Saturday night, a father spent nearly two hours searching for his son’s severed right leg after a motorcycle crash in Kampung Bechah Salak along Jalan Batu Balai–Chuchoh Puteri.

The victim, 20-year-old Sayyid Iskandar Mohamad Azaha, a final-year Electrical Technology Diploma student at Kolej Vokasional Kuala Krai and a Terengganu Sukma rugby trainee, lost his right leg when his motorcycle collided with a car at around 10.30pm.

His 18-year-old sister, Nurul Asyiqin, said their parents rushed to the scene from Bukit Acheh, Kampung Tengah after being informed by a neighbour’s child. She revealed that their father, Mohamad Azaha Ismail, took approximately two hours to locate her brother’s severed leg at the site.

“Although it was found, it was extremely difficult to reattach because the leg was severed from the hip down. What was even more heartbreaking was that father cleaned and buried the leg himself despite being afraid of blood. Even now, our parents remain silent and grieving, as he is the eldest son and the family’s hope,” she said on Monday.

Their mother, Nik Zurinawati Yusuf, 46, a nurse at Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra, also assisted at the scene. Nurul Asyiqin added that, despite her experience with emergencies, seeing her own child injured caused trauma.

The injured son was rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment due to severe bleeding, while the severed leg had not initially been recovered because of poor visibility and its distance from the crash site.

He was admitted to surgery from around 11pm until 5am before being sedated to continue further treatment.

Nurul Asyiqin recounted that her brother had earlier tried to persuade their mother to allow him to join the upcoming ‘Moreh’ Seven-Sided Challenge, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but was denied due to Ramadan. Shortly before the accident, he had been playing with their youngest sibling and then went out for moreh with friends.

She explained that on the night of the crash, Sayyid Iskandar did not attend tarawih at the mosque as usual. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the car involved overtook while the motorcycles were ascending a hill, with Sayyid Iskandar riding at the back. He reportedly did not see the approaching car, resulting in the collision.
