PM Anwar Urges Vigilance After Police Arrest Six Youths Linked to Terror Ideology

Date:

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed deep concern over the involvement of school-going teenagers in activities linked to terrorist groups in Malaysia.

Speaking at a gathering with staff from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Anwar said the issue requires serious attention following recent disclosures by Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail. He suggested that such involvement could be linked to inappropriate upbringing or exposure to harmful influences at certain stages.

“Recently, we learned that school students and teenagers were involved in preparations for terrorist activities, as announced by the IGP,” he said, describing it as a worrying development that may stem from “wrong education or wrong exposure.”

Earlier, Mohd Khalid revealed that police had successfully disrupted attempts to revive the ideology of a terrorist group through the arrest of six youths, including three minors. The suspects, aged between 16 and 21, were detained during a two-day special operation beginning Feb 14 across the Klang Valley, Johor, Kedah and Terengganu.

Anwar also urged Malaysians to remain united and continue safeguarding the country’s peace and stability. While acknowledging that Malaysia remains a peaceful nation, he cautioned against complacency and stressed the need for security agencies to stay vigilant.

He further warned of possible external attempts to influence the country’s political landscape, saying such developments should prompt greater awareness and preparedness among Malaysians.
