A juice stall owner at Alexandra Village Food Centre in Singapore suffered a frightening ordeal on Mar. 9 when his right hand became trapped in a sugarcane juicer for nearly two hours before rescuers freed him.
The incident occurred at around 8:45pm, with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) receiving an emergency call shortly after 9pm.
Firefighters and Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) specialists coordinated the rescue, while an SCDF paramedic provided pain relief and monitored the man’s vital signs. An emergency medical team from National University Hospital (NUH) was also on site to assist.
The stall owner, reportedly in his 60s and a decade-long hawker veteran, was finally freed around 10:45pm and transported to NUH for treatment. Observers at the scene noted he appeared in pain, with his right-hand ring and little fingers bandaged.
Family and friends watched anxiously during the operation, with his wife and a young relative visibly distressed as the rescue unfolded.
