Woman Discovers Maggots in Chicken Rice at KL Stall, Sparks Public Outcry

Date:

Food hygiene concerns and rising prices during Ramadan have prompted many Malaysians to dine out or cook at home, but one woman’s experience buying chicken rice at a Kuala Lumpur stall has gone viral after she allegedly discovered maggots crawling in her meal.

In a post shared on Threads, the woman said it was her first time purchasing food outside during the fasting month, only to be met with the shocking discovery. She requested a refund from the seller and urged the vendor to inspect their food carefully to prevent similar incidents for other customers.

The woman also raised concerns that the stall may have been using leftover chicken from the previous day, though she claimed the seller insisted the food was freshly prepared on the same day.

The post sparked outrage among netizens, many attributing the issue to poor food handling practices. One user explained, “Usually, this happens because the meat or food has been exposed to dirty air that contains a lot of bacteria, including contamination from flies landing on it.”

Others highlighted wider concerns over food safety at bazaars and stalls, with complaints about high prices, questionable cleanliness, and reselling of leftover food. Some urged the woman to report the stall to authorities, citing claims that food was left uncovered for hours. Another suggested returning to the vendor with evidence, warning that posting online may not resolve the problem if the seller continues the same practices.

The incident has reignited conversations about food hygiene standards in Malaysia, particularly during peak festive periods when demand is high and safety lapses can pose serious health risks.
