MCMC Investigates ‘Dickie Borneo’ Account Over Quran Disrespect Posts

Date:

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is collaborating with social media platforms to identify the owner of the account ‘Dickie Borneo’ following the spread of posts on Threads and Facebook showing an individual allegedly behaving disrespectfully towards the Quran.

In a statement yesterday, MCMC said it is working closely with police to ensure decisive and swift action can be taken. “The act not only insults Islam but also has the potential to spark tension and disrupt harmony among the country’s multiracial and multireligious communities,” the statement said.

Preliminary checks revealed that the original post has been deleted and the account could not be traced. Nevertheless, investigations will continue. MCMC also noted the discovery of additional posts containing religiously offensive content, believed to involve the same individual, with all materials preserved as evidence for further action.

The commission urged the public not to reshare content that could incite tension or disturb public order. “MCMC will not compromise on any content that insults religion, incites hatred, or touches on the sensitivities of race, religion, and the royal institution. Firm action may be taken under existing laws,” the statement concluded.
