A 31-year-old man’s attempt to outrun police in Pandamaran ended in arrest after a 10-kilometre chase along Jalan Banting yesterday, with authorities seizing two packets suspected to contain methamphetamine from his vehicle.
South Klang District Police Chief, Asst. Commissioner Lim Jit Huey, said the pursuit began at around 8.30pm when a patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle and instructed the driver to stop for inspection. The suspect fled, weaving through traffic and colliding with the left side of the police car, before crashing into two Toyota Vios vehicles, causing damage to their right bumpers.
Investigations revealed the driver has five previous criminal records and four drug-related convictions, including two warrants. He has been remanded for four days following an order from Magistrate Nur Atikah Zakaria.
“The case is being probed under Section 186/279 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants and reckless driving, Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of drugs, and Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession and drug abuse,” Lim said.
Authorities urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station or reach out to South Klang IPD at 03-33762222 to assist with investigations.
