Johor Education Office Assists Probe Into Alleged Assault Of Year One Pupil

Date:

The Johor Bahru District Education Office has submitted information regarding a headmaster, including annual performance records and disciplinary history, to assist investigations into allegations that a Year One pupil was assaulted at a school here.

Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said several teachers had also been called in to provide statements over the incident, which allegedly took place last Tuesday.

He added that officers from the Skudai Police Station had visited the school to conduct preliminary investigations, including photographing the scene and recording statements from witnesses present during the incident.

Education authorities emphasised that cooperation between schools and enforcement agencies is vital to ensure transparency and accountability in cases involving student safety.

Aznan said the Johor State Education Department had also advised school administrators to ensure that the situation within their respective schools remains calm and conducive, in order to safeguard the smooth running of classes and the well-being of pupils.

He stressed that the Johor state government would not compromise with any party involved and appropriate action would be taken to protect the integrity of educational institutions as well as the safety of students in the state.

Earlier, Johor Bahru Utara District Police Chief Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said investigations found that the seven-year-old boy was believed to have been assaulted by a 48-year-old man while at the school canteen at around 7.39am on the same day.

According to him, the suspect was arrested at about 4.55pm that day and remanded for three days until last Friday to assist investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 before being released on police bail.
