French authorities have arrested three men in connection with several separate cases involving the alleged sexual assault of twelve children across three different schools in Paris. According to sources close to the investigation on Friday, the suspects were apprehended following a series of disturbing reports concerning the safety of minors within educational environments. These arrests come at a particularly sensitive time as the city prepares for its final round of mayoral elections.
In the first reported case, an activities organiser at a school situated in the 15th Arrondissement (Mukim Ke-15) stands accused of assaulting nine children. The victims in this specific instance are reportedly aged between six and nine years old. This information was disclosed to AFP by a source who requested anonymity, highlighting the gravity of the accusations involving a significant number of young pupils under the suspect’s supervision.
A separate and equally distressing incident involves the 20th Arrondissement (Mukim Ke-15), where the husband of a kindergarten teacher has been taken into custody. He is suspected of committing sexual assaults against two toddlers, aged just three and four years old. Furthermore, police have detained another activities organiser working at a school in the 10th Arrondissement (Mukim Ke-10) for the alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old girl.
The same source indicated that a teacher at one of the schools involved was also previously detained regarding allegations involving six children aged between three and four. However, that individual was not brought to trial due to a stated lack of sufficient evidence. It is understood that all the recent arrests were executed by law enforcement officers within the past fortnight as part of an intensified crackdown on crimes against minors.
These developments follow months of public outcry in Paris regarding allegations that various activity supervisors in kindergartens have physically or sexually abused children. The issue has now transitioned into a focal point for the mayoral race, with Socialist Party candidate Emmanuel Gregoire pledging to overhaul the training protocols for school activity supervisors. Gregoire has personal stakes in the matter, having previously shared his own experience as a victim of sexual assault during an after-school programme.
