E-hailing Driver Arrested Following Fatal SUKE Highway Collision

Date:

A 26-year-old e-hailing driver has been apprehended by the police following a tragic road accident that resulted in the death of a young motorcyclist. The collision occurred on Sunday evening along the Sungai Besi–Ulu Klang Expressway (SUKE), specifically at Km0.3 of the highway. Authorities confirmed that the 24-year-old victim, who was employed as a mechanic, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical responders due to the severity of his injuries.

According to Kajang Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, the incident took place at approximately 5.56 pm as the e-hailing vehicle was travelling from the direction of Kajang. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver was operating the vehicle at a high speed and in a reckless manner as he approached the Ampang exit. The impact of the crash was reportedly instantaneous, leaving the motorcyclist with no opportunity to avoid the oncoming vehicle.

Eye-witness accounts and initial investigations indicate that the car had allegedly overtaken another vehicle before losing control and colliding with the motorcyclist. At the time of the impact, the victim was travelling on the right side of the road. The force of the collision caused the mechanic to suffer catastrophic head injuries, which were later cited as the primary cause of death during the onsite assessment.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the accident to facilitate a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the crash. However, the driver has since been released on police bail while the case continues to be processed. The vehicle involved in the accident has been impounded for a forensic mechanical inspection to determine if any technical failures contributed to the loss of control.

Legal proceedings are currently being managed under the specific provisions of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Police have urged any members of the public who may have captured dashboard camera footage of the incident to come forward to assist with the ongoing probe. The case highlights continued concerns regarding road safety and the conduct of commercial drivers on major Malaysian expressways.
