A massive fire late last night destroyed 14 squatter houses and four commercial premises, including Mydin Mart and Pasaraya Karnival, in Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur.
Pantai Fire and Rescue Station chief Wan Mohd Shahrir Azizi Wan Said confirmed that no injuries were reported.
He said the Kuala Lumpur operations centre received an emergency call at 11.11pm, prompting the deployment of 36 firefighters from Pantai, Hang Tuah, Seputeh, and Sri Hartamas stations.
The blaze razed about 80% of the squatter homes on a 0.074-hectare site and caused extensive damage to nearby shops covering roughly 0.223 hectares.
“The upper floors of Pasaraya Karnival were completely destroyed, the ground floor of Mydin Mart suffered 20% damage, and three adjacent shops were 90% burnt,” he said.
Firefighters brought the flames under control by 1.49am. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
