Over 50 Men Accused Of Attacking Gambler Following Dispute Over Dice Game

Date:

A 33-year-old man, identified as Somboon, has sought the assistance of the popular “Sai Mai Must Survive” Facebook page after he and his girlfriend were allegedly brutalised by a large group of men. The incident reportedly took place on the evening of 21 March within an illegal gambling establishment in Samut Prakan. Somboon filed an official complaint with the page’s founder, Ekaphop Lueangprasert, on 26 March, claiming that they were seriously injured during a dispute over a “hi-lo” dice game.

According to Somboon, the altercation began when the owner of the gambling den accused him of using modified dice and ordered the dealer to switch the equipment. When Somboon’s girlfriend offered to act as the dealer using the venue’s own dice, a heated argument erupted. Somboon alleged that the situation quickly escalated as other gamblers began attacking him with household items, including a broom. He claimed the opposing side then summoned reinforcements, leading to a group of more than 50 men joining the assault.

The victim described a harrowing experience, stating he was beaten with various objects, including metal bars, wooden sticks, traffic cones, and plant pots. The injuries Somboon sustained were severe, including a dislocated shoulder, a torn lip, and a head wound that required over 20 stitches. His girlfriend, who attempted to intervene and protect him, was also reportedly assaulted, resulting in a burst blood vessel in her eye and extensive bruising across her body.

Somboon expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the police investigation, alleging that CCTV recordings of the incident had been mysteriously deleted. While the opposing group has reportedly contacted him to discuss financial compensation once he recovers, the victim has stated his intention to pursue the legal case to its full conclusion. Ekaphop Lueangprasert has since reached out to Provincial Police Region 1 to verify the details of the large-scale assault and the operation of the illegal gambling den.

During the consultation, Ekaphop noted that there appeared to be violence on both sides, mentioning that two individuals from the larger group were reportedly stabbed during the melee. He cautioned Somboon that while he is an alleged victim of a brutal assault, he must also be prepared to face legal consequences himself. Under Thai law, participating in an illegal gambling den is a criminal offence, and both parties involved in the dispute are expected to be processed through the formal legal system.
