A local car owner recently experienced a financial shock when the rear windscreen of his vehicle cracked extensively, an incident believed to be caused by the current spell of extreme hot weather. The victim, 29-year-old Abdul Rahman Mohd Jamadi, shared his ordeal through a video posted on his TikTok account, @amanjamadi, which has since garnered significant attention from netizens. Abdul Rahman, who is the founder of a computer business, detailed the unfortunate event that took place while he was attending to professional matters in Bandar Baru Uda, Johor Bahru.

According to his account, the vehicle was parked directly in front of his own shop in the Bandar Baru Uda area during a business meeting. Upon returning to his car to proceed to another engagement, he was shocked to discover that the rear glass had sustained severe structural damage. Speaking to Sinar Harian on Saturday, he noted that this was his first experience with such a phenomenon and had not previously realised that environmental temperatures could lead to such a serious mechanical failure in automotive glass.
Speculating on the technical cause of the damage, Abdul Rahman suggested that ‘thermal shock’ might have been the primary factor behind the incident. He theorised that the significant temperature differential between the cool interior, maintained by the vehicle’s air conditioning system, and the intense external heat likely stressed the glass beyond its breaking point. In light of this experience, he advised other motorists to consider leaving their windows slightly ajar when parking in direct sunlight to allow trapped heat to escape and equalise internal pressure.
Despite the initial estimate of nearly RM3,000 in damages, the car owner expressed relief after discovering his financial liability would be covered by his existing insurance policy. Initially unsure of the extent of his coverage, Abdul Rahman credits the helpful community on social media for providing clarity on the matter. Following advice found in the comments section of his viral video, he verified that his additional windscreen protection covered both the front and rear glass components of the vehicle, sparing him from any out-of-pocket expenses.
The incident serves as a timely reminder for Malaysian drivers to review their insurance policies and take preventative measures during the ongoing heatwave. Abdul Rahman expressed his gratitude to the public for sharing vital information that led to his successful insurance claim. While the physical damage to the vehicle was significant, the proactive use of social media platforms allowed the victim to navigate the recovery process without incurring a heavy personal financial burden.
