Terengganu Proposes Designated Zones For Fireworks To Ensure Public Safety

Date:

The Terengganu state government has clarified that no final decision has been reached regarding the establishment of designated zones for fireworks and firecrackers for next year’s festive seasons.

Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah, Chairman of the State Local Government, Housing, and Health Committee, stated that the proposal is currently in the feedback stage. He emphasized that official guidelines will only be drafted after a thorough review of suggestions from the public and enforcement agencies.

“We have not made a definitive decision on specific locations yet,” Wan Sukairi said when contacted today. “Instead, we are opening the floor to all stakeholders to provide their views and recommendations before any formal guidelines are issued.”

The proposal to create “special zones” for fireworks was initially suggested as a measure to enhance public safety during major celebrations. By confining these activities to monitored areas, the state hopes to reduce the risk of accidents and property damage in residential neighborhoods.

Wan Sukairi, who is also the Assemblyman for Wakaf Mempelam, reiterated that the government’s priority is to find a balance between tradition and safety. He noted that input from the police and other security forces would be critical in determining which areas, if any, are suitable for such activities.

For the time being, the state government maintains that the plan remains a proposal under evaluation. Residents are encouraged to wait for official announcements and adhere to existing safety regulations until the new framework is finalized.
