Teenager Claims Assault By Grab Driver After Closing Car Door Too Loudly

Date:

Grab Malaysia has officially suspended a driver-partner following allegations that he assaulted a 17-year-old passenger in Kajang last Wednesday. The ride-hailing giant confirmed that it is currently cooperating with law enforcement and providing necessary assistance to the teenager to facilitate a comprehensive investigation into the incident. In a statement issued to FMT, Grab expressed regret over the passenger’s ordeal, reiterating its zero-tolerance policy regarding any violations of its strict code of conduct for both drivers and users.

The altercation reportedly took place at the conclusion of a trip from Saujana Palma Residence to Kajang Perdana. According to the police report filed at the Kajang station, the teenager claimed the driver overshot the designated drop-off point upon arrival and subsequently refused to return to the correct spot. The boy explained that he had requested the driver to reverse the vehicle slightly because there were numerous stray dogs gathered at the location where the car had stopped.

The situation escalated when the driver allegedly ignored the request and instead ordered the teenager to exit the vehicle immediately. The victim stated that as he stepped out and closed the car door, it shut with a loud thud, which appeared to provoke the driver. Following this, the driver reportedly exited the vehicle and began physically attacking the boy, striking him on his head, face, and body.

During the struggle, the teenager fell to the ground, resulting in further physical trauma. He sustained visible injuries to his cheek and his left thumb as a result of the fall and the subsequent physical confrontation with the driver. The victim provided these details to the authorities to support his claims of assault and battery during the transit dispute.

The case has drawn significant attention to passenger safety and the conduct of e-hailing drivers in residential areas. Grab Malaysia maintained that the safety of its community remains a top priority and that it would not hesitate to take permanent action against those who breach safety protocols. Local police are expected to continue their probe into the circumstances leading up to the violence to determine if further criminal charges will be laid against the suspended individual.
