The 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results have recorded a notable improvement, with the National Average Grade (GPK) strengthening to 4.42 compared to 4.49 in the previous year. Director-General of Education, Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, announced the figures, highlighting a positive trend in the overall academic performance of students across the country.
According to official data, a total of 13,779 candidates achieved excellent results, securing Gred A+, A, and A- in every subject they sat for during the 2025 session. While this total is slightly lower than the 13,827 top achievers recorded in 2024, the pinnacle of academic excellence saw an upward shift. Specifically, 376 candidates managed to score straight A+ grades in all subjects, surpassing the 352 students who reached that milestone the year prior.
The Ministry of Education also reported a significant increase in the number of students achieving at least a credit or Gred C in all of their subjects. For the 2025 results, 92,347 candidates met this benchmark, representing a healthy jump from the 86,040 candidates who achieved the same feat in 2024. This growth suggests a broader improvement in the middle-tier performance of the national cohort.
Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad noted that these statistics reflect the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education and student readiness for the national examination. The improvement in the GPK value, where a lower figure indicates better overall performance, serves as a key indicator of the progressing standards within the Malaysian school system.
The release of the results marks a pivotal moment for tens of thousands of school leavers as they prepare for tertiary education and vocational training. Education officials have expressed satisfaction with the steady gains in core competencies, as evidenced by the rising number of students clearing the credit threshold across all tested disciplines.
