Police have apprehended a 41-year-old man suspected of slashing another individual with a knife before setting the victim’s motorcycle on fire at Jalan Singkir Badong, near Yan, on Sunday evening. Yan Police Chief Supt Mohamad Hamizi Abdullah confirmed the incident occurred around 7:00 PM and involved a 34-year-old motorcyclist.
According to police reports, the victim was attacked while riding his motorcycle, leading to a physical struggle between the two men. During the altercation, the victim sustained a slash wound to his right wrist but managed to flee the scene on foot, leaving his vehicle behind. The suspect then allegedly disconnected the motorcycle’s petrol pipe and used the fuel to set the machine ablaze.
Acting swiftly, authorities arrested the suspect at 8:00 PM the same day and recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the assault. Initial investigations suggest the motive was a personal grudge; the suspect was reportedly unhappy with the victim for repairing a water drainage pipe that the suspect himself had previously damaged.
A background check revealed that the suspect has two prior criminal records related to drug offenses.
The case is now being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and Section 435 for mischief by fire with intent to cause damage. The suspect remains in custody as police finalize their investigation into the violent outburst.
