Mexico and Belgium played out a 1-1 draw in an international friendly at Soldier Field on Tuesday, as both sides wrapped up their final preparations before confirming their 26-man World Cup squads.
Mexico started strongly and controlled much of the first-half possession, breaking the deadlock in the 19th minute when Jorge Sanchez converted from a corner, finishing while falling backwards to give his side the lead.
Belgium came out sharper after the interval and levelled just a minute into the second half, with Dodi Lukebakio capitalising on space in the Mexican defence to fire a powerful long-range equaliser in the 46th minute.
Both teams made widespread substitutions as the match progressed, with coaches using the fixture to assess squad depth and finalise selections ahead of the tournament.
Belgium, who previously defeated the United States 5-2, are set to face Croatia on June 2, while Mexico will take on Ghana in a friendly on May 22 as part of their final build-up.
The World Cup, co-hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada, will run from June 11 to July 19.
