In an effort to improve energy efficiency and reduce unnecessary electricity consumption, the government has introduced several new measures, including raising air-conditioning temperatures in government offices and relaxing dress code requirements for civil servants.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the latest directive issued yesterday states that civil servants are no longer required to wear formal suits or blazers to work.
Instead, the government is encouraging daily wear of batik attire, expanding beyond the previous rule which only allowed batik on Thursdays.
Under the revised guidelines, civil servants may now wear batik throughout the week, while the mandatory requirement for suits and jackets has been lifted to promote greater comfort and reduce reliance on air-conditioning.
At the same time, government agencies have been instructed to moderately increase air-conditioning settings in offices to avoid excessive cooling, as part of broader efforts to cut energy usage and promote sustainability.
