A man in Thailand has been arrested after police discovered him allegedly cooking dog meat at his home, with investigators also reporting that he tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to authorities, the suspect admitted during questioning that he had eaten dog meat before and said he enjoyed it. However, he reportedly acknowledged that the act was illegal, while insisting he did not personally kill the animal involved.
The case came to light after a Facebook user posted images showing meat arranged on trays alongside plastic bags containing portions of what appeared to be animal meat. The post questioned whether hunger could justify such actions and urged authorities to take legal action, also tagging relevant agencies and citing alleged violations of Thailand’s animal welfare law.
Police in Udon Thani later arrested the man after finding cooked dog meat at his residence. Officers also conducted a drug test, which returned positive for methamphetamine, with the suspect allegedly admitting to recent drug use.
Authorities further claimed the man was known locally for substance abuse, and noted that a similar dog had gone missing in the area under suspicious circumstances last year.
He has since been charged with possession and use of a Category 1 narcotic as well as animal cruelty under Thailand’s animal welfare legislation, and remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The incident has also reignited public concern over animal welfare enforcement in Thailand, where similar cases in recent years have sparked widespread debate over cruelty laws and illegal drug-related offences.
