Police in Sibu have arrested a foreign man and seized a variety of drugs valued at RM164,695 in an integrated operation conducted across the town on Monday.
Sibu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azari Miskon, said the 25-year-old Indonesian suspect was detained at around 11.30pm along Jalan Padawan. Authorities initially confiscated 272.02g of powder believed to be ecstasy and 2.78g of ketamine.
Following the arrest, the suspect led police to a residence in Lorong Kiew Nang, where a larger stash of drugs was discovered. The haul included 1,089.79g of ketamine, 4,509.65g of suspected ecstasy powder, 278.51g of additional substances, 890 Erimin 5 pills, and 140 millilitres of liquid believed to be ecstasy.
The total seizure, estimated at RM164,695, highlights the scale of drug trafficking activities still present in urban areas, prompting continued enforcement efforts by authorities to curb the menace.
Azari said the suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations, with the case being probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction.
In the same operation, police screened 212 individuals at several hotspots, including entertainment outlets and business premises. Six local men were found to have tested positive for drugs such as methamphetamine, ketamine, and amphetamine.
