MACC Sets Bold New Promotion Rule: Lose 5% Body Weight or Miss Out!

Date:

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is taking a bold step to promote healthier lifestyles among its personnel — by considering a 5% weight loss as a key criterion for promotions!

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki revealed that the agency agreed to this proposal from health experts including Malaysian Obesity Society president Professor Dr Rohana Abdul Ghani and Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Professor Dr Barakatun Nisak Mohd Yusof.

The MACC is teaming up with UPM’s Medicine and Health Sciences faculty and MYOS to roll out an awareness programme focused on weight management, aiming to improve discipline and fight obesity within the civil service.

“We place great importance on the physical and mental health of our personnel,” Azam said, highlighting the agency’s commitment to healthier staff.

Starting 2026, the MACC will require all personnel to maintain a Body Mass Index (BMI) below 27 to be eligible for promotions, along with a new weight loss challenge offering rewards to those who meet targets.

Recently, the MACC also conducted a Weight and Metabolic Management Awareness Programme, including basic health screenings to kickstart the initiative.

This groundbreaking move is not just about fighting corruption — it’s about building a healthier, more disciplined workforce ready to serve Malaysia better.
