Two Men Face Court For Allegedly Smuggling 77 Migrants In Lorry

A former civil servant and a lorry driver were charged at the Sessions Court for allegedly smuggling 77 migrants of various nationalities last month.

The accused, 35-year-old Aliff Ezry Ismail and 38-year-old Muhammad Izzuddin Mustafa, nodded in understanding after the charge was read out before Judge N Priscilla Hemamalini.

According to the charge sheet, both men were accused of jointly transporting 77 migrants using a pink Isuzu lorry fitted with a canvas cover.

The offence was allegedly committed by the roadside near the traffic lights at Simpang 3, Taman Pelangi at about 5.45am on 14 March 2026.

They were charged under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Act 670), read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, they face a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM250,000, or both.

The court did not allow bail for both accused and set June 8 for mention of the case.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Watchira Wong Rui Fern. Aliff Ezry was unrepresented, while Muhammad Izzuddin was represented by lawyer Amnach a/l Ee Niam.
