KPDN Raid Uncovers Illegal Storage Of 288kg Subsidised Cooking Oil In Kedah

Date:

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Kedah raided a residential premises in Kampung Sungai Limau on Sunday after it was found to be storing subsidised cooking oil illegally.

Its director, Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin, said the operation, carried out at about 11am, involved four enforcement officers from the Baling branch following a week-long intelligence gathering based on public complaints.

He explained that the house was being used to process local snack products, including frying chips, and inspections led to the discovery of a large quantity of cooking oil believed to be used for the activity.

“A 33-year-old local man who claimed to be the owner of the premises failed to produce any permit or approval from the Supply Controller to store the cooking oil,” he said in a statement.

During the raid, authorities seized 288 one-kilogram packets of cooking oil, with the total value of the confiscated items estimated at RM720 for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, while KPDN warned that any attempt by individuals or syndicates to misuse government subsidies is a betrayal of public and national interests.
