Reigning world mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei provided a rare bright spot for Malaysia at the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) by marching into the quarter-finals today.
While most Malaysian shuttlers exited early in the first two rounds, the world No. 4 pair delivered a convincing performance to defeat India’s Dhruv Kapila–Tanisha Crasto in the second round.
The Malaysian duo secured a 21-13, 21-14 win in just 37 minutes at the Olympics Sports Centre in Ningbo, China, marking their third straight victory over the Indian pair in as many meetings.
Elsewhere, Malaysia still has hopes in the men’s doubles and women’s doubles categories, with Aaron Chia–Soh Wooi Yik, Pearly Tan–M Thinaah, and Carmen Ting–Ong Xin Yee continuing their campaigns in the second round.
They are scheduled to play their respective matches later in the day as Malaysia looks to keep more representatives in contention at the tournament.
In the quarter-finals, Chen–Toh are set to face either South Korea’s Kim Jae Hyeon–Jang Ha Jeong or Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah–Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu.
However, Malaysia’s women’s singles challenge came to an end after K. Letshanaa was comprehensively beaten 21-14, 21-8 by South Korea’s Sim Yu Jin in the second round. Letshanaa, ranked 18 places below her opponent, was eliminated in 33 minutes.
