The mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir has filed a police report against several social media account holders over posts and comments she claims contain defamatory accusations, harassment, and insults directed at her.
In a statement issued by the legal team representing Noraidah Lamat, it was confirmed that they are aware of the online content targeting their client and her family in relation to Zara Qairina’s death. The statement emphasised that such allegations circulating online have caused significant concern.
“It is hereby informed that she lodged a police report on 9 April 2026 against the owners of the accounts involved,” the statement read, adding that the claims made are false, baseless, and constitute serious defamation affecting her reputation as well as the emotional wellbeing of her and her family.
The legal team further stressed that any comments or speculation that go beyond acceptable boundaries are inappropriate and may carry sub judice implications, potentially interfering with the administration of justice. Such situations, they noted, highlight the growing impact of unchecked narratives on social media platforms.
In addition, the lawyers warned that they view any form of dissemination, repetition, or publication of defamatory statements with utmost seriousness. They cautioned that individuals who persist in making or spreading unverified allegations will face legal action without prior notice.
Earlier, the legal representatives also reminded the public that the next inquest proceedings are scheduled to take place from 13 to 17 April at the Coroner’s Court. The legal team comprises Shahlan Jufri, Datuk Rizwandean M Borhan, Mohd Syarulnizam Mohd Salleh, Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi, Farrah Nasser, and Elhanan James.
