Two armed robbery incidents were reported within a span of less than 24 hours in Bandar Baru Nilai and the Rumah Rakyat Nilai area on Thursday, raising concerns over public safety in the district.
Nilai District Police Chief, Superintendent Johari Yahya, said both cases involved suspects on motorcycles armed with knives and machetes, with one victim sustaining minor injuries during the incidents.
The first robbery took place at approximately 1.10am at a 24-hour convenience store. Preliminary investigations revealed that two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle, with one of them brandishing a knife during the crime.
“The suspects threatened a male victim in his 20s, while the other took an estimated RM600 in cash along with several cartons of cigarettes of various brands before fleeing the scene,” he said in a statement on Friday.
The second incident occurred later that same day at around 9.48pm in the Rumah Rakyat Nilai area, involving a female victim in her 50s. Three unidentified men on two motorcycles, armed with machetes, approached and threatened the victim before escaping with her valuables.
Among the stolen items were cash, bank cards, and jewellery, with total losses estimated to exceed RM2,000. The victim also suffered minor injuries to her fingers while attempting to defend her belongings.
Johari added that both cases are being investigated under Sections 395/397 and Section 394 of the Penal Code. Authorities are urging members of the public with any information related to the incidents to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the nearest police station.
