The Road Transport Department (Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia) has opened an investigation file after a viral video showed a bus express driver allegedly operating the vehicle with a woman seated on his lap.
In the clip, believed to have been recorded by a passenger, the woman can be seen apparently handling the steering wheel while sitting on the driver’s lap as the bus was in motion. In a separate video, believed to have been captured by a dashboard camera of a trailing vehicle, the bus is seen travelling in normal traffic conditions.
Based on social media posts, the bus is believed to have been travelling from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan to Kulai at the time of the incident.
JPJ Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said immediate action was taken once the video went viral, with both the driver and the bus company identified.
He confirmed that the driver has been called in to have his statement recorded as part of the ongoing investigation. The case will be referred to the Director-General of JPJ upon completion of the probe for further instructions.
Authorities have urged members of the public with additional information to come forward and assist investigations. JPJ also reminded all road users, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to strictly comply with traffic laws at all times to ensure the safety of passengers and other road users.
