Lift With Residents Surges Upwards And Smashes Through The Room Floor

Date:

A shocking elevator incident has occurred in Wuhan, China, after a residential lift reportedly went out of control during maintenance work and surged upwards, crashing into the top of the shaft and damaging the machine room floor.

According to a statement from the Huangpi District Market Supervision Administration issued on April 14, the incident took place on the evening of April 13 at a residential complex in the Daqiao Longcheng estate. Authorities said the accident happened during elevator maintenance when improper handling by repair personnel caused the empty lift car to accelerate upwards uncontrollably.

Officials confirmed that the elevator “overrun to the top” and struck the upper structure, but no injuries were reported in the incident. It remains unclear whether anyone was inside the lift at the time.

Local authorities said special equipment safety inspectors have been dispatched and multiple departments are jointly investigating potential hazards and safety risks linked to the malfunction.

The incident has sparked public concern online, with netizens questioning maintenance standards and safety oversight of residential elevators. Some also highlighted the seriousness of such failures, noting that both upward and downward uncontrolled movements can pose extreme danger.
