Police have arrested a local man suspected of animal abuse after a viral video showed a puppy being immersed in a water tank at Section 32, Shah Alam, on Wednesday.
Shah Alam District Police Chief Ramsay Embol confirmed that the suspect, a man in his 20s, was detained at a construction site at about 3.40pm following a public report linked to the TikTok video that surfaced earlier at 2.14am the same day.
Authorities said the arrest was made after members of the public alerted police upon viewing the 22-second clip, which allegedly showed the act of cruelty involving a young dog submerged in a tank of water. The case has since sparked public outrage over animal welfare concerns.
During the operation, three dogs were also seized with the assistance of the Selangor Veterinary Services Department for further investigation. The rescue forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure the welfare and safety of the animals involved in the case.
Police are investigating the matter under Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 and Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming animals. Authorities have urged witnesses or individuals with further information to assist investigations by contacting the investigating officer.
The case gained attention after the video went viral on social media platform TikTok, prompting swift police action and renewed calls for stricter enforcement against animal cruelty offences.
