“I was under a spell, I don’t remember,” said Muhammad Kamal Raj Shanmugam Abdullah, 40, after being brought before the Sessions and Magistrate’s Courts on Wednesday.
The police inspector is facing eight charges, including attempted murder and reckless driving involving a traffic police officer.
No plea was recorded as the accused, who is single and suffers from schizophrenia, was deemed unfit to enter one at this stage.
According to the charges, he allegedly attempted to kill a traffic officer by deliberately ramming into the victim using a Perodua Axia, an act which could have caused death.
The incident is said to have occurred at around 10.47pm on April 10 along Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra.
He has been charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine, or up to 20 years’ jail if the act results in injury, upon conviction.
