A 24-year-old YouTuber in Japan has revealed her shock after allegedly finding out that an acquaintance was responsible for a series of abusive and defamatory comments directed at her online.
The content creator said she had been targeted by negative remarks since last year, with the frequency and severity of the comments increasing significantly in 2026. Initially, the messages appeared sporadically and were vague in nature, but later became more personal and harsh.
Among the comments were insults targeting her appearance, including one that read: “How dare you go outside with a face like that?”
The situation escalated further when some remarks referenced her forehead — an insecurity she said she had only ever disclosed to close friends, raising suspicions that the perpetrator was someone within her personal circle.
Concerned by the pattern, she initiated a legal disclosure request process to identify the anonymous user behind the comments. The procedure is commonly used in Japan to unmask individuals behind online defamation and can take several months to complete.
Through the process, she allegedly discovered that the person behind the comments was an acquaintance who also had been sending her supportive messages privately.
The revelation reportedly left her stunned, although it remains unclear whether she has taken further legal action or reached any resolution with the individual involved.
