Police Hunt For Bus Driver Caught Driving With One Hand In Viral Clip

Date:

Police are actively tracking down an express bus driver suspected of driving dangerously after a video of the incident went viral on Thursday. The case has sparked renewed concerns over passenger safety and the conduct of public transport operators.

Alor Gajah District Police Chief, Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar, said the footage showed the driver leaning back in his seat while steering with only one hand as the vehicle was in motion at night. He noted that such behaviour could significantly impair vehicle control, reduce driver focus, and endanger both passengers and other road users.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the one-minute and 20-second video began circulating around 1.05pm on Thursday via WhatsApp and various social media platforms. The rapid spread of the clip highlights the growing role of digital platforms in exposing road safety violations to the public.

Initial checks indicate that the vehicle involved is believed to be an express bus owned by a bus operator, travelling from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru. Authorities believe the incident may have occurred near Kilometre 196.1 southbound, although the exact location remains under investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police have stressed that reckless driving, particularly involving vehicles carrying members of the public, will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Superintendent Ahmad has urged the driver involved to come forward immediately to assist investigations at the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Alor Gajah District Police Headquarters. Members of the public with information are also encouraged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Nurul Salina Rosli, at 011-25435507 or visit the nearest police station.
