A Malaysian man with a name resembling a sequence of alphabet letters has shared how his distinctive identity often surprises people, but has never caused him any official complications.
Mohd Abcideff Ahmad Bana, 33, a senior mobile developer based in Subang Jaya, said his unusual name frequently prompts double takes when people first see it, although he has grown accustomed to the reactions.
Known commonly as Abcideff or Cideff, he explained that his name has never posed issues during official processes such as voting or interactions with authorities, despite initial surprise from those who encounter it for the first time.
He said the naming pattern comes from his family tradition, where the “AB” prefix is derived from his father’s name, Ahmad Bana. His sister also carries a similar structure, with both siblings continuing the unique naming approach while the rest of the family have more conventional names.
Abcideff, who originally hails from Kuching, Sarawak, moved to Selangor in 2000, later returning briefly before coming back again in 2012 to pursue a degree in Computer Forensics at Management and Science University.
He noted that many people often assume his name is a nickname or something created online, but clarified that it is his official given name. Despite occasional confusion, he said the reactions are usually harmless and short-lived.
For him, the name is more than just an unusual combination of letters — it represents a family identity that connects him and his sister through a shared naming tradition rooted in their father’s initials.
