A motorcyclist was killed after being struck from behind by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and dragged for 59 metres along Jalan Ibam–Rompin near Kampung Bangkong earlier today.
In the incident at about 7.05am, the victim, identified as 37-year-old Kairol Ismail, was thrown approximately 37 metres upon impact before the vehicle involved reportedly caught fire.
Rompin District Police Chief Superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said both vehicles were travelling in the same direction from Ibam towards Rompin when the collision occurred.
He said a 69-year-old man driving a Perodua Alza collided with the rear of the motorcycle ahead, causing the fatal crash.
The motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene, while the MPV driver escaped unhurt.
The victim’s body was sent to Rompin Hospital for post-mortem examination, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred on a straight road under clear weather conditions with dry and level road surfaces.
Police said early findings point to driver negligence as the cause of the crash.
